The Dorsey Shanty, adjacent to the Reception Center is the backdrop for the Shaffer Garden. Named for Landmarks Foundation’s longtime architect and friend, John Shaffer, the Shaffer Garden memorializes an individual who contributed years to the development of Old Alabama Town. The replicated well, pleached Crape Myrtles, and other period and native plantings illustrate the way a yard of this size might have looked in 19th century central Alabama.
